Welcome to City University, London

Welcome to City University's "guide for new employees" - created to assist you through your first day at the University.

Where do I have to go?

On your first day at City University London, you will be asked to report to your line manager in the first instance. A letter from the Human Resources Department will indicate who to report to. Following on from the initial meeting with your line manager, an appointment will be made for you to visit Human Resources, 2nd Floor, City Innovation Centre, 26-31 Whiskin Street, EC1R 0JD so you can complete the process relating to your appointment.

New employees at CASS Business School will be asked to report directly to their site, where a local HR induction will be carried out.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

As detailed in the letter to you, you will need to produce some documentation on your first day.  This includes documents confirming your eligibility to work in the UK, your P45 tax form if you have one and the academic qualifications, vocational certificates and professional memberships that you will have listed on your job application form and / or CV.  It is very important that you provide these documents on your first day to ensure that you are permitted to work and to ensure that you are entered on the University payroll system.

What happens in Human Resources?

The Senior HR Adviser assigned to your School / Department will meet with you and deliver a short induction. If you have any queries, the Senior HR Adviser will endeavour to answer them but in some cases, they may have to refer you to a more appropriate member of the department/organisation.

Following this induction the Senior HR Adviser will get a Senior HR Administrator to collect and check all documentation requested with you. You may be asked to complete other forms, such as a P46 (tax form) if you do not have a P45.

The Senior HR Administrator will also explain to you how to obtain your City University ID card, computer and library access.

Once you have completed the HR part of your induction you will return to your department and the rest of your day will be in line with the recommendations detailed at http://www.city.ac.uk/sd/localinductionchecklist.html. You will be invited to attend the one-day Corporate induction - details will be sent to you by the Staff Development Unit.
