09/10 - now Visiting Lecturer, School of Health Sciences, City University London
Research interests
Ageing, Biomedical and Psycho-social aspects of Ageing, Falls prevention in older age, Postural Stability measurement, Safeguarding Adults at risk, Dementia, Long term conditions, Self management, Care plan, Malnutrition
Teaching
At City University, School of Health Sciences I deliver lectures, seminars and tutorials across various departments. Subjects are:
1. Health Services Research (for example: BSc dissertation module, safeguarding, health care resources, self management in chronic conditions, care plan for long term/short term conditions, Life Experience Placement, Interprofessional Education, psycho-social aspects of ageing)
2. Research subjects (for example: qualitative and quantitative research methods and designs on MSc, BSc modules)
3. Biomedical subjects (for example: ageing, age-related neurological impairments, falls/ mobility assessments)
International teaching:
From 2007 I am regularly invited speaker and deliver lectures in Prague for the Third Age University programme at Charles University Prague, Czech Republic and Free Time University. All subjects are linked to Health Services Research (for example: self management in long term/short term conditions, self management in chronic illnesses, biomedical and psychosocial aspects of ageing, falls prevention etc.).
National/International research & scholarly activities
I am supervising Health Services Research related projects at PhD, MSc and BSc level and working on future publications with students and through intensive collaboration with world top ranking research institutions:
Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Division of Population health, University College London - HAPIEE study (Health and Psychosocial Factors in Eastern Europe).
Gerontology Centre for persons with Dementia and Alzheimer Disease in Prague, Czech Republic and International Longevity Centre (ILC) Czech Republic based within the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University Prague. Research collaboration currently focused on reviewing the literature on restrictive measures used in Europe for patients suffering from dementia and/or AD.
Glasgow University, UK, School of Health and Life Sciences and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London, UK - preparing research proposal focused on measurement of Postural Stability and Centre of pressure (COP) in the elderly. Aim is to propose a suitable intervention exercise and improve the postural stability, consequently prevent falls in older age, maintain self-sufficiency, and improve the quality of life in ageing population.
Collaboration with Professor David Oliver - National Clinical Director for Older Peoples Services, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal Society of Medicine. Professor David Oliver works closely with other NCDs and across the DH and government in helping to secure better services for older people.
