New Research Projects
The School Research Governance system applies to all new research projects initiated within the School after 1st February 2003 which involve human research participants. The system encompasses all research undertaken in the School, whether funded or not. It also includes any research undertaken as part of an educational programme such as an MSc or Research Degree.
The School Research Ethics Office will provide up-to-date advice about the steps summarised below. Please contact Dr Nicholas Drey, Chair, School of Health Sciences Research Ethics Committee for further assistance or detailed discussion of research ethics applications
All applications should be emailed and sent in hard copy by post to Alison Welton, Research Governance Officer.

For all research projects involving human participants which start after 1st February 2003, a Research Registration Form (EC3) must be completed and submitted through the School Research Ethics Committee. This can be submitted at any time. You must follow University guidance, please see the Research Ethics FAQs on common issues arising in making an application for research ethical approval. You should also consult the University's pages on ethics guidance, in particular for guidance on information sheets and consent forms. Students should follow this link: Student Research Ethics Guidance (https://intranet.city.ac.uk/students/research_support/research_support/research_integrity/research_ethics.html). Staff should follow this link: Staff Research ethics Guidance (https://intranet.city.ac.uk/staff/research_support/research_support/research_integrity/research_ethics.html).
If you require full ethical approval from the School Research Ethics Committee you will also need to submit an Application for Approval of Research Involving Human Participants.
