EyeNET
Primary care research network
EyeNET is a primary care research network that was created in 1998 following a government initiative to develop primary care research. The London NHS region awarded £200 000 NHS R&D funding over three years to establish the network, with the Fight For Sight Optometry Clinic at City University as the lead practice.
Following this initial three year grant, funding for the network has continued with the current grant ending in March 2009. Over these 11 years EyeNET will have been awarded in excess of £800,000 to support Primary Care Eye Research in London.
All primary care practitioners of whatever discipline with an interest in eye research are encouraged to join the network. London based primary care researchers are welcome to apply for research funding for primary care eye related research projects.
Aims
The aims of EyeNET are to:
- Implement planned multi-disciplinary research programmes in primary care
- Develop research skills of community optometrists keen to carry out primary care R&D
- Provide statistical advice and support from statisticians to EyeNET researchers
- Expand the network of research practitioners undertaking primary care research
- Develop links with non-optometric researchers within universities to contribute to research carried out by primary care community optometrists
- Disseminate information through a variety of formats to ensure that research findings are communicated widely to promote the incorporation of research developments into primary care clinical practice
- Raise the profile of optometry R&D throughout the profession
Membership
Network membership is currently made up of optometrists , GPs, ophthalmologists, orthoptists, pharmacists and other professionals from across the UK and abroad with an interest in eye-related research.
