Evaluation of a WHO Portal
Evaluation of WHO Resource Center for National Public Health Laboratories web portal
The WHO Resource Center for National Public Health Laboratories web portal is a repository of resources for public health laboratories around the world. It is managed by the WHO/CSR Office in Lyon, France (WHO/CSR/LYO). The latter aims to develop core competencies for national reference public health laboratories (NPHL) and epidemiology units in order to detect and respond to epidemics and emerging infections. Originally, the portal was open to registered users whilst public access was restricted to certain resources. CeRC was commissioned to carry out an evaluation of this web portal.
On completion, the portal was migrated to the GLOBE project.
Impact
In 2006, we carried out an in-depth user-needs and satisfaction study of the portal. We used a number of methodologies for this study:
- querying users using questionnaires
- using web server logs to analyse website usage and user behaviour
- using a set of directed tasks in the questionnaires to analyse user behaviour and attitude change.
The web server logs were used to complement this analysis. The findings of this report were provided to the WHO/CSR/LYO.
We carried out continuous analysis of the web server logs for the portal for monitoring website usage and user behaviour. Our findings/analysis were reported to the WHO/CSR/LYO office on a monthly basis. We also performed specific assessments of the web portal using the web server logs.
Funding and Duration
