Studentships and fellowships

A number of students are financially supported by studentships and fellowships offered by City University, research councils, employers, NHS Trusts and charities.

 2009/10 academic year

This year the following students were successful in securing doctoral research fellowships for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals from the National Institute for Health Research:

Lucia Rocca An ethnographic study of culture and practice in a freestanding urban midwifery-led unit.
Matthew Grundy-Bowers A qualitative study of unprotected anal sex & HIV negative/untested gay men.

Agatha Bula Living conditions of HIV positive mothers and impact on exclusive breastfeeding promotion and adherence in Malawi.
Jesssica Duncan The global governance of food:  Representation and participation in global food security policy.
Yvonne Gerard The quality of life impact of patient reported outcome measurements (PROMs) questionnaire:  Development and validation in Great Britain.
Ghada Ibrahim Maternal morbidity and utilization of maternal healthcare services in Sudan.
Maria Poppi A retrospective study comparing three approaches of treating childhood autism:  Applied behaviour analysis, psychodynamic approach and speech and language therapy.
Rosalind Sharpe An investigation of how social aspects of sustainability are being incorporated (or neglected) in the dynamics of the UK fruit and vegetable supply.
Robert Stocker What does it mean to be in a civil partnership?  An exploration of the relationship between civil partnership status and sexual behaviour and health among MSM in London.
Roopa Vemala Early detection of vision loss in patients with age-related macular degeneration and diabetes - a longitudinal study to establish the correlation between structural changes in the retina and the associated functional loss.
