Ophthalmic Assessments and Patient Outcomes following Ophthalmic Interventions

The research group focuses on the patient reported outcomes and the impact of treatments for conditions of the Eye. Current research includes the presentation and impact of surgery on patients presenting for strabismus with and without amblyopia and the impact of surgery for thyroid eye disease. The group also focuses on other conditions of the eye that have an impact on appearance and how the alteration to appearance impacts on patients' quality of life and social and psychological functioning. A further theme focuses on clinical investigations associated with advanced nursing practice including: administration of intravitreal Injections of Lucentis; administration of Nd:Yag laser capsulotomy; competency enhancement in clinical care during cataract surgery and an Expert Patient Programme for the self-management of chronic open angle glaucoma.
