Weekly Stammering Clinic

The Lidcombe Programme is a behavioural therapy approach which aims to eliminate stuttering in pre-school children. A maximum of 5-6 children per day can be seen, with a parent, at this weekly clinic. In the clinic parents are taught to carry out the daily therapy program at home. Regular weekly assessment of the children, and guidance and supervision for the parent, are provided by SLTs trained in the Lidcombe Program. Many of the children are referred through an honorary arrangement with City & Hackney.

Adults: The weekly clinic also offers a small number of sessions for individual therapy (e.g. block modification) with adults.

The weekly clinic provides 4 ongoing student places twice throughout the academic year. Students experience a steadily increasing degree of involvement and responsibility taking, appropriate to their level of development and growing expertise. Students will also be involved in working with any current adult clients. They are required to maintain regular notes, write reports and liaise with relevant others - e.g. Nursery school staff. Team working skills are a necessity. Sessions are routinely videoed which enhances the development of students' clinical skills.
