General Clinic

Comprehensive eye care in the heart of London.

The Primary Care Clinic offers comprehensive NHS and private eye examinations to the general public and staff and students at City, University of London, in state-of-the-art facilities. The highest professional standards of eye care are applied in our student teaching clinics (which are supervised by experienced optometrists) and to our non-teaching clinics.

Our clinics offer:

  • Comprehensive routine eye examinations
  • Examinations to monitor stable eye disease
  • Examinations for diabetic patients including screening for patients under the Whittington Hospital Diabetic Screening Program
  • Examinations for glaucoma patients
  • Examinations for cataract assessment and referral
  • Eye examinations for VDU users
  • Occupational related eye examinations e.g. London Fire-fighters, Police, London Underground

We have the latest equipment for examining your eyes and the facility to take photographs of the outside and inside of the eye in order to monitor any eye health related changes.

NHS Eye Examinations

Some UK resident patients are entitled to a free eye examination under the National Health Service (NHS). Patients entitled to an NHS eye examination include:

  • Patients 60 years of age and over
  • Children under 16 years of age
  • Students under 19 in full time education
  • Patients on Income Support
  • Working Families Tax Credit
  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Disabled Persons Tax Credit
  • Patients in possession of a valid HC2 certificate
  • Patients registered as partially sighted or blind
  • Patients with Diabetes or Glaucoma
  • Patients with suspect glaucoma
  • Patients over 40 with a parent/brother/sister/child with glaucoma
  • Patient with complex lenses under the NHS optical voucher scheme
