How is the Student Assessed?
Students are evaluated throughout their programme of learning in order to ensure fitness to practice. Criteria are established through learning outcomes written into the specifications for each module and the programme as a whole. The learning outcomes have been established using QAA Benchmark statements, guidelines from the professional body, The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, and reflect The Standards of Proficiency required by the Health Professions Council.
The Learning Outcomes can be found within the student handbooks.
Students are assessed formatively and summatively.
Formative Assessments include
-
Joint evaluations of student performance by the clinical supervisor and student on placement (at the mid-point in every placement) link
-
Self evaluation on Clinical Skills
Summative Assessments include
-
Five portfolio tasks per year (hand-in dates vary for each year group)
-
Professional Standards
-
A two part clinical examination: an placement assessment mark from the clinical supervisor in the student's last placement of the year and the in-house video exam mark (BSc students in March; PGDip students in June)
More details can be found in the Student Clinical Handbooks.
