Women in Enterprise
17 November 2010
City marked Women's Enterprise Day with a special event on Wednesday 17 November. Four business women operating in a range of industries spoke about their entrepreneurial journeys and offered practical advice to a full audience.
The event was jointly organised by City University London, Islington Business Partnership and Islington Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, which took place between 15 and 19 November.
The four female speakers were Monika Slowikowska of the construction company 'Sunrise Corporation Ltd', Bea Vo of the patisserie 'Bea's of Bloomsbury', Heather Wilkinson of Leadership, Business and Career Coaching Service 'Striding Out' and Jacky O'Leary of Communications Agency 'N1 Creative'.
Research has shown that the number of female-owned enterprises is growing year on year adding to the vast pool of highly successful small businesses. This has provided a great boost for the economy and also serves as an excellent mechanism for women's empowerment. The Women in Enterprise event celebrated the work of successful business women in the UK and provided inspiration for budding entrepreneurs.
Nadia Zernina-Forde, Marketing and Business Development Manager for City Research & Enterprise, commented:
It was fantastic to see so many people at the Women in Enterprise event. The four entrepreneurs shared their thoughts and experiences and spoke frankly about their entrepreneurial journeys. It was a great inspiration for people working towards setting up a business in need of insight and encouragement."
