What is the professional status of translators as perceived by practitioners, their clients and the public? What features does translation share with other professions and what factors work against its being regarded as a profession itself? This lecture draws on research and practical experience to examine the role and responsibilities of practitioners in professionalising the profession and the steps their professional bodies can take to improve translator status.

The lecture will be followed by a small reception.
