Mechanical & Automotive Engineering
Mechanical and Automotive Engineering has a vast impact on modern living, in particular, on the design and manufacture of reliable cars and transport systems and of global and sustainable energy systems. Our courses are designed to deliver graduates with advance knowledge who can take leading roles in above tasks. This aim is further supported by our thriving research programmes with international recognition which enjoys collaborative links with many research groups and industries.
Our programmes are focused upon advanced knowledge of the latest technological developments in mechanical and automotive engineering. They benefit from many modules taught in our highly successful Mech/Auto/Energy UG programmes at MEng level and also from our successful research activities.

Why Study at City?
- City is located at the heart of London and has firmly established a reputation for excellence in industry-relevant research and training over the past 100 years.
- Our staff: Most of our staff are research-active, at the cutting-edge of their field and up to date with the latest industrial developments in their subject areas and had many research collaborations with different industries like Yamaha, Toyota, Shell, Delphi, Lotus, BP, Howden Compressors Ltd. Two of our staffs have Industrial Chair from Delphi diesel and Howden Compressors Ltd.
- Our facilities: modern lecture theatre equipped with the latest interactive AV systems, Central University facilities including a Students' Union, a Centre for Career & Skills Development and a Central Library,
- City's internationally-recognised Research Centre for Energy and Transport's excellent computational and experimental facilities cover all topics including a number of modern test facilities for experimentations and advanced optical/mechanical instruments for different diagnostic methods. Major specialisations for individual projects include computer-aided design, energy systems and management, screw compressors and expanders, experimental techniques, mechatronics or fuel cells.
- Our Programmes: Both programmes are accredited by the IMechE and provide the path for graduates to gain charter status. The programmes are designed to provide students with advance technical knowledge and expertise in design and manufacturing, internal combustion engines, renewable energy and alternative fuel, computational fluid dynamics, vehicle engineering and design and industry-standard CAD tools.
- Our friends: a host of Mech/Auto/Energy professionals come through the doors to participate in UG and PG programmes and to help with the teaching, projects and giving seminars.
- Our community: with a manageable cohort size we will know you all individually right from the beginning. We are cosmopolitan with more that 60% international students and have a nice and friendly social environment. Join the City Mech/Auto PG family!
