Electrical & Electronic Engineering
Electrical engineering is one of most vibrant branches of engineering with a history of almost continuous innovation in this field. This is a field of engineering that in general deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. The field first led to the development of an identifiable profession in the late nineteenth century after the commercialization of the electric telegraph and electrical power supply and has developed significantly in the twentieth century by covering a range of topics including power, electronics, control systems, signal processing, instrumentation, information engineering, telecommunications and more recently photonics, biotechnology and nanotechnology. At the present time, electrical engineering is considered to deal with the problems associated with large-scale electrical systems (power generation and transmission etc), while electronic engineering deals with the study of small-scale electronic systems (including computers, integrated circuits etc) which are electrical devices processing information. More recently, this distinction has faded through the development of new applications (micro generation, power electronics etc) and the growth of areas such as control, signal processing, instrumentation, information engineering and telecommunications which relate to many of the most important technologies related to our health, social, energy and environment.
