If you are looking for private accommodation during your studies, City and the University of London both run events throughout the year to help you find out more about the options.
This year's Accommodation Fair was held on the Friday 10th February 2017. There were 26 stalls of Private Housing Providers, Bill Split companies, Lettings, the City Accommodation team and our collegues from the Univeristy of London were available on a stall and in a drop-in to give private housing legal advice.
City's 2018 Accommodation Fair will be held around mid-February.
The University of London Housing Services (ULHS) also hold an annual Housing fair and this year it will be on Friday 5th May 2017 around at Senate House, University of London. Senate House is located in Malet Street, WC1E 7HU. City students can attend on production of their City ID card when entering. Last year this was a huge event with many housing providers and some amazing freebies on offer from the stallholders - definately worth a visit! Please see ULSH Events webpage.
The University of London Housing Services host their annual house-hunting days around mid-September. This event offers an opportunity to meet potential flatmates and find out more about house-hunting in London. Details of University of London Housing events can be found on the ULSH Events webpage.
Private Housing Advice
City have enlisted the services of the University of London Housing Services (ULHS) who run a private housing service for many students in London. Both current students and those with an offer to study can access these services.
The ULHS can offer advice to students on how to find accommodation, which areas to consider, what the options are, pricing and more. They produce a London Student Housing Guide which a vast amount of information on how to search and secure accommodation in London which is also accessible online.
They have an online database of accommodation from registered landlords and letting agents which operates throughout the year. These include flats and houses for groups as well as rooms in shared flats and houses. The ULHS works with a number of other providers of accommodation including short-term providers and Private Student Halls of Residences.
ULHS offers housing advice which includes offering a contract checking service which allows students to have their contracts for private accommodation checked before they sign. They also offer legal advice should students get into any difficulty in private accommodation.
The ULHS office is open from 10am-5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 11am-5pm on Tuesdays. You will need to contact them to book an advice appointment, as they do not generally offer drop in appointments.
