Overview
The Professional Practice course will enhance your knowledge and understanding of effective team and interprofessional working, encourage your own personal and professional development, and give you a critical insight into the evidence base surrounding your own area of professional practice.
The course has an interprofessional approach to teaching which means you learn with others from different professional groups and benefit from different perspectives on common issues, while learning how to approach these in your own work situation. Learning within a group and sharing information across professional roles and responsibilities really enhances the study experience.
Learning methods are dynamic and stimulating. The course is delivered by experts from across the School.

The programme is suitable for those working in healthcare, education,
child care, emergency services, the police, social care or the voluntary sector.

Course Fees:
- Full-time EU: £9,000 (2013/13). 2012 fees, all fees to be confirmed.
- Part-time EU: £4,500 (2013/13). 2012 fees, all fees to be confirmed.
- Full-time Non EU: £14,300 (2013/13). 2012 fees, all fees to be confirmed.
- Part-time Non EU: £7,150 (2013/13). 2012 fees, all fees to be confirmed.
Start Date:
Each programme route commences in September, although you can also join the programme at the beginning of each academic period, January or May.
Entry Requirements
- Foundation Degree or Diploma
- We welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds
- It is not necessary for applicants to be in full-time employment.
English Requirements
For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:
- IELTS: 6.0
- TOEFL (internet-based): 80-90
Visa Requirements
City University London retains Highly Trusted Status from UKBA, enabling us to sponsor international students to study in the UK.
The way that you apply may vary depending on the length of your course at City, there are different rules for:
- Students on courses of more than 6 months
- Students on courses of less than 6 months
- Students on a pre-sessional English Language course

Course Content
Child and Youth Studies Route
This route gives professionals from a wide range of backgrounds the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to become competent practitioners and leaders in the field of child and youth work; to develop their professional skills, knowledge and understanding though work, and to demonstrate the acquisition of skills, knowledge and understanding required of a graduate.
Public Service Management Route
This route gives professionals from a wide range of backgrounds the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required for success in administrative and management roles in the public and voluntary services sectors.

The course is work-focused, so you may find it helpful to arrange access to placements for some of the modules if you are not currently in employment.

Teaching and Assessment
The course will be delivered through formal lectures followed by practice-orientated seminars; enquiry-based learning; student-led seminars around specific professional practice topics and disciplines; group projects; and project development. You will also benefit from personal tutorials to follow up the content of shared modules.
Assessment is through a combination of course work, projects and reflective practice.
