User and Carer Involvement in Practice CPD
The importance of user and carer involvement in the planning and delivery of health and social care has become increasingly recognised by government, health professionals, funders and the public. Indeed such involvement now forms an essential part of any service or organisations development. This module explores the central debates and challenges surrounding user and carer involvement in health and social care practitioners.

Entry requirements for BSc Health Sciences (online) programme:- 120 Level 1 credit points and 120 Level 2 credit points in healthcare-related subjects
Entry requirements for study as a stand-alone module:
- Current registration with a professional and regulatory body (healthcare)
English Requirements
For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:- GCSE English Language at Grade C or above
- IELTS: 6.0
What will I learn?
The module will enable you to:- Gain an awareness of and demonstrate an understanding of government policies for the provision of health and social care
- Explain the different terms used in user and carer involvement in health and social care and relate these to the origins of user and carer involvement and current policy and initiatives
- Critically evaluate the different levels of engagement in your own clinical area
- Identify the specific needs of carers
- Discuss how effective user and carer involvement can be assessed and encouraged at both organisational and clinical levels
- Explore the problems and challenges for promoting user and carer involvement
- Analyse the extent to which different user and carer groups are actively involved in current care initiatives
- Critically evaluate the evidence for equality and inclusion in user and carer involvement.

Mode of deliveryTeaching methods include online seminars which include interactive applications, online discussions and other opportunities for reflection on how theories are linked to practice.
Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of a 3000 word essay which should be your own individual work.
