Developments in structure, administration and roles all have implications for the newly appointed practice nurse, particularly since the implementation of the new General Medical Services Contract.

Eligibility

  • You must be a qualified nurse or midwife either in the UK or overseas.

The module requires you to be:

You should be employed in a general practice. You can undertake the module if they are working in the acute sector. 

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS:  7.0
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 107

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:
      
  • Critically evaluate how your record keeping procedures promote high standards and continuity of care in primary care
  • Critically evaluate how recent changes within the NHS have impacted on the care delivered within primary care, using reflective practice
  • How evidence-based practice can be used to underpin the delivery of care within primary care
  • How the use of reflective practice how the ear care study day has affected your practice in primary care
  • How the use of reflective practice how the ear care study day has affected your practice in primary care
  • Critically examine and explore the new clinical areas of practice that can be delivered in line with national and local drivers for change
  • Critically evaluate how evidence based practice that can be utilised to ensure that the public can make informed choices with respect to the MMR controversy 
  • Utilise acquired skills and knowledge, effectively manage and support the practice's child immunisation clinic, including the use of Patient Group
  • Evaluate the impact of variables within the wider environment that may affect the uptake of immunisation rates.

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods include lectures, Seminars, Group work and Self directed.

Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of a 3,000 word essay on a topic that is relevant to the area of the practice nurse.
