Eligibility
- You must be a practitioner (qualified or unqualified) in healthcare or a related profession.
What will I learn?
The short course will enable you to:- Identify the major structures of the respiratory system.
- Identify and explain the main physiological components of the respiratory system eg: mechanics of ventilation, gas exchange and ventilation/perfusion ratios
- Explain lung volumes and capacities
- Define obstructive lung disease
- Explain the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of the three main types of obstructive disease - chronic bronchitis, emphysema & asthma
- Give a rationale for the administration of the commonly prescribed medication for COPD - bronchodilators & steroids.
