Eligibility

  • You must be a practitioner (qualified or unqualified) in healthcare or a related profession. 

What will I learn?

The short course will enable you to:

  • Describe the relevant anatomical features applicable to the understanding of heart failure
  • Show an understanding of the normal physiological concepts that relate to cardiac failure eg: blood pressure control, intra-cardiac pressures
  • Give a reasonable definition of cardiac failure
  • Explain the physiological processes involved in the progression of cardiac failure
  • Provide a biological explanation for the development of the symptoms/problems experienced by people with cardiac failure eg: breathlessness, oedema
  • Give a rationale for the administration of the commonly prescribed medication for cardiac failure - ACE inhibitors, AT1 antagonists, digoxin & diuretics.
