Supporting and Assessing Learning in Practice Settings (online) CPD
The module is validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council according to the Standards to Support Learning and Assessment in Practice (NMC 2008) as it prepares practitioners for local registration as mentors for pre-registration nursing and midwifery students. However, mentorship is also recognised by the Health Professions Council (HPC) as an important professional activity in meeting continuing professional development needs of its registrants.

Eligibility
Entry requirements for BSc Health Sciences (online) programme:
- 120 Level 1 credit points and 120 Level 2 credit points in healthcare-related subjectsEntry requirements for study as a stand-alone module:
- Current registration with a professional and regulatory body (healthcare)
English Requirements
For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:- GCSE English Language at Grade C or above
- IELTS: 6.0
What will I learn?
The module introduces core aspects of supporting learners who are developing their professional knowledge in work-place settings. In particular, the following domains, or areas of practice are explored through class, work-based or online learning activities.
Each student must provide mentorship for a learner in their own practice area under the supervision of an experienced qualified member of staff (for nursing and midwifery applicants this person should be a locally registered mentor) who will assess their progress and competence in this role. Assessment of learning outcomes will be through online portfolio submission.

- Build confidence in assessing and giving feedback on practice
- Critically explore mentorship theory and practice
- Assess the quality of the workplace as a learning environment
- Develop professional accountability for practice learning outcomes.
