The module critically evaluates specific areas of knowledge and understanding required for specialist practice in intensive care nursing.

Eligibility

  • You must be a qualified nurse or midwife either in the UK or overseas.
Work/Clinical Placement Requirements

The module requires you to be:

  • Working in a suitable practice area
  • Working in a clinical placement
  • Have a clinical mentor.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS: 7
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 107

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:

  • Critically discuss care strategies required by the patient with neurological injury
  • Critically discuss care required by patients following major trauma
  • Rationalise care strategies following cardiothoracic surgery
  • Rationalise care strategies required by the patient in acute liver failure. 

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods include lectures/seminars; tutorials and self directed study.

Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of practice-based reflective portfolio. Clinical competency assessment is part of this.
