Research Methodologies for Practice CPD
The module introduces you to the main principles of research in the behavioural and health sciences. It covers key concepts related to the scientific method and the various research designs used in the study of human behaviour, health and illness.

Eligibility
Entry requirements for BSc Health Sciences (online) programme:- 120 Level 1 credit points and 120 Level 2 credit points in healthcare-related subjects
- Current registration with a professional and regulatory body (healthcare)
English Requirements
For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:- GCSE English Language at Grade C or above
- IELTS: 6.0
What will I learn?
The module will enable you to:- Discuss the fundamental principles of the scientific method and in particular, its application to the study of human behaviour, health and illness
- Differentiate between qualitative and quantitative approaches to research
- Explain the meaning of reliability and validity and the importance of rigour whatever research approach is adopted
- Critically analyse the use of descriptive and inferential statistics
- Evaluate the implications of research findings for practice and for further research
- Critically review the barriers to the application of research findings in practice and potential ways for overcoming these.
Teaching and Assessment
Mode of deliveryTeaching methods include online seminars which include interactive applications, online discussions and other opportunities for reflection on how theories are linked to practice.
Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of a single 5000 word essay which should be the students' own individual work.
