Promoting Social Inclusion and Recovery in Mental Health  CPD

There are a certain number of commissioned places available in association with the East London NHS Foundation Trust, who have a formal agreement with City University. Prospective students can approach their Line Managers or the Trust Education Lead regarding these.

Eligibility

  • A first degree is not required. However if you do not have a degree you will be asked to complete a short written piece of work which will be assessed by the module leader. You may also be interviewed.
  • You need to have two years relevant work experience. Relevant work experience may  include working as a mental health and social care practitioner, as a manager within nursing, medicine, social work, the justice system or occupational therapy, or working in the statutory, voluntary or independent health and social care.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS: 7.0
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 107

What will I learn?

This module will enable you to:

  • Critically examine government legislation, policies and initiatives at both national and local levels in relation to social inclusion and the promotion of recovery based approaches to interprofessional mental health practice
  • Explore strategies for engaging with individuals and organisations and building the process of recovery based practice in partnership with service users.

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Small group work including reflective practice groups, student led presentations, peer/group, discussions, seminars, lectures, tutorials and self directed study.

The format throughout the module is as follows:

  • Taught/workshop sessions
  • A facilitated reflective practice group for individual presentation of an aspect of work
  • Student led presentations and critical analysis of seminal and current papers
Assessment
You are required to write a 3000 word reflective account on applying an aspect of theory, policy and research to interprofessional practice in social inclusion and recovery.
