Physical Assessment Across the Lifespan  CPD

Physical assessment at masters degree level is comprised of two modules (Introduction to History Taking and Physical Examination NMM026 and Physical Examination: A Systems Approach NMM078) that must be taken together.

The modules involve history taking, interviewing skills, use of equipment, and systematic examination of the cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, neurological and musculoskeletal systems and the head and neck, lymphatic's, dermatology, genitalia, breast and eye.

Both modules are 15 credits each.

Eligibility

  • You must be a qualified nurse, midwife or allied health professional either in the UK or overseas

The module requires you to be:

  • Working in a suitable practice area
  • Working in a clinical placement
  • Have a clinical mentor

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS:  7.0
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 107

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:

  • Enhance practice in caring for the person/client who is either in a state of health or illness.

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods include lectures and skills development at University each week and a day of clinical practice examining patients/clients in the clinical setting each week.

Assessment

Assessment for the two modules is via an OSCE and a practice based assessment (3000 word essay).
