Eligibility
Professional/Academic Qualifications- You must be a qualified nurse or midwife either in the UK or overseas
Work/Clinical Placement Requirements
The module requires you to be:
- Working in a suitable practice area
- Working within a perioperative environment and should have evidence of a foundation level of knowledge gained in practice. To have a clinical mentor
English Requirements
For those students whose first language is not English one of thefollowing qualifications is also required:
- IELTS: 7.0
- TOEFL (internet-based): 110
What will I learn?
The module will enable you to:- Develop your skills and knowledge of cardiovascular pathophysiology and care
- Gain an understanding of respiratory pathophysiology and care
- Apply skills to basic haemodynamic monitoring
- Apply skills to basic airway management
- Gain knowledge of applied gastro-intestinal physiology
- Gain knowledge of applied renal physiology
- Develop your skills and knowledge of general and regional anaesthesia / mechanical ventilation
- Gain an understanding of tissue viability and VTE prevention
- Apply principles of critical thinking to factors which influence the effectiveness of care
- Apply knowledge of decontamination and sterilisation legislation and processes to practice.

Mode of deliveryA variety of teaching methods are used to promote the students' understanding of the principles that underpin their surgical care practice.
Assessment
The assessment for the module consists of an essay.
