What will I learn?
Having completed the course, delegates will come away with the knowledge to start building their own open source solutions. The main open source standards and technologies covered in the course are:
- ISO 13606
- HL7 CDA
- Web-based enterprise architecture (Java)
- XML and XSLT
- XQuery
- X-Forms
-OWL (Web Ontology Language)
- SNOMED-CT
Specific learning objectives are to:
- Understand the principles of Open Health Informatics
- Experience agile software development practices, in a classroom environment
- Learn about key open standards that can be used effectively in practice
- Gain hands-on experience of open source tools and techniques
- Leave the course with a portfolio of open source tools and materials for building an EHR.
The course is presented in six modules, with lecture-style presentations and hands-on learning exercises, conducted in the style of an Agile development process. There are opportunities to interact and discuss issues with the instructors and fellow students and to extend the learning experience beyond the classroom using the learning materials and open source tools provided.

4. Sprint 3 - Recording Clinical Data
5. Sprint 4 - User Interface for an EHR Application
6. Close-down - reviewing progress and planning for the future
