Eligibility

  • You must be a qualified nurse or midwife either in the UK or overseas.
The module requires you to be:

  • Working in a suitable practice area
  • In a clinical placement
  • A clinical mentor.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS:  7.0
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 107

What will I learn?

This module will enable you to:

  • Demonstrate effective assessment, planning and delivery of proficient intensive care nursing to sick neonates and their families
  • Critically evaluate the care of sick neonates utilising appropriate and recent evidence applied to practice for all dependency levels of care
  • Practice at a more confident and proficient level in relation to the clinical nursing care skills of the sick neonate and family
  • Develop your professional role as a competent neonatal nurse in relation to both clinical and theoretical knowledge.

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods include lectures, simulation and OSCEs.

Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of clinical OSCE with supporting MCQ.
