Eligibility

  • You must be a qualified nurse or midwife either in the UK or overseas.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS: 7
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 100

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:

  • Expand your knowledge of the context of childbirth and current issues in midwifery practice
  • Critically appraise the development of midwifery knowledge, practice and care organisation and management
  • Apply advanced skills of information and knowledge management for the promotion of health and well-being of childbearing women and their families
  • Explore the basis of contemporary midwifery theory and practice using a range of academic theoretical perspectives, eg sociological, ethical and legal
  • Explore current challenges and opportunities in the organisation and delivery of midwifery care.

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods include lectures, seminars and work-based learning.

Assessment
Assessment  for the module consists of an essay.
