Mental Health Problems in Children and Adolescents: Treatment, Care and Support  CPD

The module will provide you with the opportunity to critically evaluate the processes involved in the long-term care and treatment of children and families.

Treatment modalities and therapeutic interventions will be considered and research evidence investigated. Cultural and political contexts of care will be considered enabling you to synthesize the main arguments for changes in legislation and the Mental Health Act. The module will consider the needs of staff in terms of support, supervision and professional development.

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:
  • Critically evaluate the efficacy of different treatment modalities and therapeutic interventions identifying the legislative frameworks underpinning treatment, care and support
  • Examine the value of reflective practice and explore the ethical basis of individual rights vs public safety.
