Intensive Care Core Skills  CPD

The module focuses on areas of knowledge and understanding which underpin the nursing care required by the intensive care patient as well as respiratory compromise and respiratory support.

Eligibility

  • You must be a qualified nurse or midwife either in the UK or overseas.

Work/Clinical Placement Requirements

  • Working in a suitable practice area
  • Working in a clinical placement
  • Have a clinical mentor.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS:  7.0
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 107

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:

  • Critically discuss core care requirements of the intensive care patient
  • Rationalise mechanical respiratory support
  • Evaluate the effect of respiratory support.

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, tutorials and self directed study.

Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of a practice-based reflective portfolio. Clinical competency assessment is part of this.
