High Dependency Specialist Role Development Module 2  CPD

The module builds upon knowledge gained from Acute and High Dependency Care Core Skills - NM3224 module. The rationale for this module is to advance the specialist skills of practitioners who are currently caring for adult patients with complex acute and high dependency needs and whose conditions can change/ deteriorate rapidly.

Eligibility

Professional/Academic Qualifications
  • You must be a qualified nurse or midwife either in the UK or overseas.
Work/Clinical Placement Requirements

The module requires you to be:

  • Working in an area with level two patients
  • In clinical placement.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS: 7.0
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 110

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:

  • Critically evaluate the impact of disordered physiology on homeostasis
  • Rationalise the use of pharmacological agents in view of displayed physiological changes
  • Critically evaluate the psychosocial requirements of the patient requiring acute and high dependency care
  • Critically appraise the ethical basis upon which decisions are made within the acute and high dependency setting
  • Skilfully co-ordinate individual patient care through the critical evaluation of patient data and systematic patient assessment, to underpin effective clinical decision making
  • Critically evaluate immediate and short term goals associated with the acute and high dependency patient continuum
  • Rationalise the ongoing physiological support required by the patient with acute and high dependency needs.

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods include lectures and seminars.

Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of an objective structured clinical examinations and reflection.
