High Dependency Specialist Core Skills Module 1  CPD

The overall aim is to develop the practitioner's core skills in acute and high dependency care enabling them to systematically assess the critically ill patient, in order to detect subtle changes, respond rapidly to patient care needs, set key priorities and to identify appropriate, contemporary treatment strategies.

Eligibility

  • You must be a qualified nurse or midwife either in the UK or overseas.

The module requires you to be:

  • In clinical placement
  • Currently working in an area with level two patients.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS: 7.0
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 110

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:

  • Critically apply knowledge of pharmacology and disordered anatomy and physiology to patient care to provide rationale for care
  • Critically evaluate the needs of the family in the provision of high dependency care, taking account of an individual's cultural and spiritual identity
  • Critically utilise clinical judgement and decision making in order to assess systematically actual and potential life threatening problems in the patient with single organ failure and demonstrate appropriate action
  • Utilise an evidence-based approach to maintain and develop professional competence within high dependency care.

Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of an essay.
