Food, Public Health and the Environment CPD
The module seeks to integrate the food policy dimensions of public health and the environment. There are three interlocking themes: the new public health and its antecedents, risk analysis and its social context, and environmental impacts of the food system.

Eligibility
The module is suitable for people in a wide and varied range of professions:
Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Local or Central Government, The Civil Service, Non-Governmental Organisations, Food Manufacturing, Retail or Catering.
Entry requirements
- Second class honours degree equivalent
- Background or interest in a food-related area of employment or study.
English Requirements
For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:
- IELTS: 7
- TOEFL (internet-based): 107
What will I learn?
The module will enable you to
- Identify and determine the relationship between food, public health and the environment.
- Recognise the ideological role of different agents in the creation and condition of public and environmental health.
- Appraise the public health and environmental implications of the food system.
Teaching and Assessment
Teaching
Teaching is delivered through lecture sessions, workshops, small group activities and discussions, and whole-class discussions.
Assessment
The assessment is based on a work related example of trying to influence policy development, while requiring the student to establish the application of relevant theory to the chosen topic area.
