Eligibility

  • You must be a qualified nurse either in the UK or overseas working with children in an Ambulatory care unit or Emergency Department


Work/Clinical Placement Requirements

The module requires you to be:

  • Working in a suitable practice area.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS: 7.0
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 107

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:

  • Develop competence in the rapid assessment of the acutely ill child
  • Revise and develop knowledge in physiological and anatomical processes affecting illness manifestation in children
  • Identify research base available to inform practice of caring for acutely ill children
  • Develop a wider understanding and insight into caring for acutely ill children.

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods include a mixture of classroom, including one session in the simulation centre and independent study.

Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of a 3000 word essay focused upon an identified area of practice based on individual need.
