Research Record

My research and special project work demonstrate an underlying philosophy of seeking knowledge, which underpins the practice of nursing.  Evidence, which is reflected in the publication section of my curriculum vitae, suggests that I have a solid and focused programme of research and scholarly activity related to the theme of practice development, through staff nurse involvement, in acute and critical care nursing.  In collaboration with others, I have achieved a significant amount of funded research and special project awards.  The majority of these awards have occurred within the past ten years.  These include, £901,481 in funded research and special projects, £1,000,000 in funded research posts for the purpose of establishing programmes of research, £110,000 in studentships (plus one PhD studentship per annum in perpetuity through the St Bartholomew’s Hospital Joint Research Board) in the United Kingdom, and $175,000 in funded research and special projects in the United States of America.  My work builds upon previous research endeavours and merits recognition as original distinguished contributions to the discipline of nursing.  It made a full contribution to the Research Assessment Exercise in 2001 and 2008.
