Jane's pictureI’m proud to say that I have been involved in the development of NeLI (National Electronic Library of Infection) and NRIC from the very beginning. I started working at City University in 2001 as a Research Assistant on NeLI and despite changing jobs, I continue to have a keen interest in seeing these resources develop fulfilling a key role in providing healthcare professionals with quick and easy access to the information they require for decision making.

 

Currently, I provide secretariat support to ARHAI (Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection), a newly established Advisory Committee which replaces SACAR (Specialist Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance) and HCAI SG (Healthcare Associated Infection Steering Group) (HCAI SG).

Background

Prior to working on NeLI, I had a variety of jobs which have included data entry, autoclaving and preparing media in a food lab, working in retail and in the student union. In 1995, I began working at the Health Protection Agency (then the Public Health Laboratory Service) as an administrator for the CD4 surveillance scheme in the HIV division, then as scientist working on the unlinked anonymous serosurveillance study of HIV in hospital patients. In 1999, my association with advisory committees began providing support to the PHLS Advisory Committees under the dubious title Scientific Liaison Officer - B. I've also done a stint in IKM (Information, Knowledge Management at the Centre for Infection, Health Protection Agency, Colindale) developing the LARS (Local and Regional Services) web pages.

My educational achievements include an MSc in Health Sciences from St Georges Medical School (2001) and a BSc Honours degree (2:2) in Zoology from Queen Mary and Westfield College in 1992.

Interests

My research interests include knowledge management, community building, infectious disease, indexing and ontology.
