Centre for Creativity in Professional Practice

Who are we

The Centre for Creativity in Professional Practice is a unique collaboration between leading researchers and academics from all of City University London's six schools, combining research and education from Business, Design, Arts, Social Science, Informatics, Health, Law, Engineering and more.

City is a world class centre of applied creativity research. In 2009, funding was granted by the University to establish the Centre for Creativity, which provides a focus for research, education and knowledge transfer activities around the core themes of innovation, creativity and leadership.

The Centre intends to become the UK leader in teaching, research and knowledge transfer for creativity in professional practice, ranging from informatics and engineering to business and the arts.

The staff involved in the Centre continue to work and do research within their individual Schools, while also contributing to the Centre's activities. We also have a small number of PhD students and visiting staff adding to the Centre's diversity.

What we do

Our Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership has been designed to give students the skills to turn ideas into action. Delivered by leading academics and industry experts from Cass Business School, School of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Informatics, and the City Law School, the Masters delivers perspectives from the worlds of psychology, business, design, technology, creative writing, creative industries, leadership and law.

The Masters has a limited intake of maximum 20 students per year and is aimed at individuals who already have at least 3 years of work experience.

I originally anticipated that the MICL would provide core ingredients of theories, methods, tools and insights that could enhance my skills and thinking.  It's definitely delivered these at the core.  I have learned things that I would never have anticipated and challenged myself in completely unexpected ways. The subjects are intensely interesting, and you discover layers and layers of connections across disciplines, which can be used to create your own web of information and lens in which to view creativity, innovation and leadership.

Research is at the heart of the Centre for Creativity. Current projects include research into reflective learning at work, creative engagement with customer data, and an innovation framework for local councils.

Between us we have a wealth of shared knowledge about what it takes to have great ideas and turn them into action. Want to get more out of your projects? We can help you give a boost to any project with our facilitated creativity workshops.
