Latin American School
Our Main Aims
- To support the newly arriving Latin American communities
- To give them a relaxed meeting point where their children can learn their culture and language and they can improve their English
- To help longer term residents whose children want to gain an exam in Spanish and improve their English for further education.
What we do as an organisation
- Run three terms of school: Spanish for the children leading to exams and English for the adults.
- Give young children the chance to learn Latin American dance and the older children to have exercise after a Latin American healthy lunch – capoeira, football etc.
- Participate in Carnaval del Pueblo.
What we do as part of the Celebrating Enterprise project
- Through our network of parents, carers and children attending the school, we are able to promote the training and support activities offered by other project partners (further education colleges and business advice agencies) directly to the target audience for the Celebrating Enterprise project.
- Deliver a range of music, performance and dance workshops to harness the creative talent of our communities with the aim of providing them with the foundations for a successful career in the cultural industries.
- Deliver an outreach programme to offer English classes for the communities living near our new venue – Sunnyhill Primary School in Streatham.
Who we work with
We work mainly with Latin Americans living in London but also with people from other backgrounds who want to learn Spanish or find out more about the culture and heritage of Latin American communities – music, dance, and art. We are currently building links with the communities around our new venue Sunnyhill Primary School in Streatham and the wider Lambeth community.
