Work Shadowing Scheme 2012

February 7th, 2012

Work-shadowing enables enthusiastic and committed students to shadow professionals working in the profession or industry they are hoping to enter after graduation.

Typically students will be assigned to one particular individual or department/business area, with the experience lasting one full day. During the day, the student will observe the responsibilities and tasks associated with that individual or team and have the opportunity to ask questions about the knowledge, skills, talents, and level of education required.

Students who apply for a place on the scheme will be carefully selected, trained and matched to each work-shadowing opportunity by the Careers Team. The aim is to ensure that you have the most suitable student for your organisation.

We are currently looking for professionals from across many different sectors and career paths to take part in the scheme including finance, engineering, IT, marketing, HR, media, retail, health, not-for-profit and the public sector.

To find out more about Work-Shadowing, please contact the Employer Liaison Team: T. +44 (0) 20 7040 8425 E.  workshadowing@city.ac.uk

I have been looking at a large number of careers pages on websites for unis over the last couple of weeks, and I have to say as an employer wanting to get in touch with City, its too inpersonal. I want to know who I am likely to deal with, their name, email and a photo. Have a look at what other unis are doing and see how far behind you are. I recall from my days at City the careers service was useless and no help at all to me. As someone who now works in the HR & Staffing sector, you need to improve your service and accessibility.

    Hi Helen,

Many thanks for your post, although I’m very sorry to hear you have not been satisfied with the service you have been provided. I will pass your comments onto my colleagues in the careers team.

    With very best wishes,
