Higher Tariff Points
February 3rd, 2012
For entry in 2012, City has increased its entry requirements for almost all courses. We are now proud to be a largely 360/AAA institution, putting us on par with the country’s highest calibre universities.
Although the pool of applicants has decreased in the current cycle, early indications suggest that the quality has improved and we are seeing applicants with very high predicted grades. Internationally, our numbers have increased and offers for international qualifications are being made commensurate with our increased tariff. We hope that this will provide us with a cohort capable of taking City towards its 2016 vision.

I am not sure if AAA entry is a good thing or not. There must have been a shift in the value of ‘A’ levels over the years. When I applied in 1968 my offer was 2 ‘D’s. I wonder if the problem is that there are now too many universities and that some differentiation of types of institution is needed. Rather than calling everything a university, we could perhaps have universities, technical colleges and so on, but perhaps that is being terribly old-fashioned.
