This group performs research on basic visual mechanisms from the early stages (e.g. edge-finding) to higher cognitive processes (attention and learning), and is closely involved with the CPO group in applying basic knowledge to clinically-oriented projects, mostly at Moorfields Eye Hospital. The group is led by Michael Morgan (MM), and includes Manfred Fahle (MF), Larry Weiskrantz (LW), Joshua Solomon (JS), Janet Wolf (JW) and Alison Finlay (AF). Support has been obtained from EPSRC, BBSRC and the BIOMED 2 Program of the European Community which funded the VIPROM (Visual Processing of Movement) consortium led by MM and included MF. Current grants support two postdocs and one RA. The basic skills of the group are in Psychophysics, Mathematical Modelling (especially Signal Detection theory), and Cognitive Neuroscience (MM is an Honorary member of the Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL).
