Visual Neuroscience (VN)

This group is led by Ron Douglas (RD), and includes John Lawrenson (JL), Gordon Ruskell (GR), Gary Baker (GB) and Simon Grant (SG). The group members have overlapping research interests in both the peripheral and central components of the visual pathways and there are strengths in a broad range of experimental approaches, extending from molecular biology, to anatomical and physiological methodologies, and behavioural analysis.

Examples of our current research are:

• The pupil response of rodless coneless mice; the characterisation of a novel ocular photopigment
• The visual pigments of deep-sea fish
• The pupil responses of (non human) animals
• The neural mechanisms underlying retinal light and dark adaptation in the teleost retina
