Sound, music & the moving image

In this module you will explore the use of music and sound in combination with moving images from a variety of historical, creative, theoretical and cultural perspectives.

Although there is a loose chronological structure that follows the history of film, this elective focuses on particular themes and issues that are central to audiovisual studies more generally.

You will examine a range of examples, discussing in some detail the role of music and sound in communicating meaning and developing the tools to answer two fundamental questions: 1) what is sound/music doing in a given context? i.e. what effect does it have on the viewer; and 2) how is it doing it?
