Music in oral cultures and studies in ethnomusicology

You will be introduced in this module to the diversity of musical practices in non-literate or orally transmitted music from across the globe.

A central them is the voice as a powerful and versatile instrument, and the relationship between language, speech and song in human vocal communication.

This teaching introduces you to ethnomusicology as the study of music within the context of society, and as a universal aspect of human social behaviour.
