Research
City's Graduate School of Journalism is world-renowned for its taught MA courses, but it is also active in the field of academic and practitioner research into journalism.
There are three main areas of journalism-related research activity at City:
- Research projects, studentships and events within the Centre for Law, Justice and Journalism (CLJJ), the first major interdisciplinary centre in the UK to focus on analysing legal and media change and the effects on both journalism and society.
- Research undertaken by our academic staff, which includes analysis of online journalism and personalised news, newsgathering via social media, journalism training and education, and the sociology of news and journalism.
- Projects and PhDs undertaken by research students in both the CLJJ and the Graduate School of Journalism. Current PhD students are researching funding models for investigative journalism and self-censorship in the press, among other topics.
