Overview

Stephen Mesquita brings a wide range of publishing experience to the Book marketing module - experience which forms the basis of his philosophy that good marketing is what makes the difference between success and failure in publishing.

Stephen's career in publishing has been in travel and illustrated reference publishing. He started his professional life in magazine subscription promotion as a Direct Mail specialist, flew over 1.5 million miles in export and rights sales, and managed many product launches and PR campaigns, in the process becoming a guru on speed cameras and appearing on both TV and radio. Much of his career was spent in the Publishing Division of the Automobile Association, ending up as Managing Director.

Alongside his teaching at City (Stephen joined the teaching team in 2008-9), he divides his time between running a consultancy business for UK and International travel publishers and teaching. Stephen is the publisher of the Nielsen BookScan Travel Publishing Year Book, which offers travel publishers an annual in-depth analysis of the UK and international markets using BookScan's data.
