Understanding the modern world

This module is empirical and historical, offering you knowledge and understanding of historical developments, social change, social institutions and social cleavages.

You will explore social changes that have occurred in the period known as ‘modernity’ through the lenses of social institutions (family, religion, the market) and social cleavages (gender, class, ethnicity etc.).
