Experiments in writing (non-fiction) and literary criticism (non-fiction)

These two modules run in the first two terms of year one, providing an incubation period for your book.

You will focus on discovering fresh options for style and structure by critically reading non-fiction books past and current.

You will then concentrate your research on selected sections of your book, accumulating enough details to make your writing compelling and rounded.

As the ‘voice’ of your book emerges you will also explore and develop your skills in the key elements of narrative non-fiction writing: e.g. working practice; research; structure; creation of narrative momentum; the introduction of characters; the embedding of source materials and the use of description.

You will  respond critically to your own and other students’ writing.
