  • Emma Slater (Investigative Journalism, 2009) won New Journalist of the Year at the British Journalism Awards. Fay Schlesinger (Newspaper Journalism, 2008) won Investigation of the Year with Alexi Mostrous, December 2012
  • Rachel Richardson (Newspaper Journalism, 2002) won a British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) Award in the Newspaper & Current Affairs Magazines and Digital Magazine Titles category, November 2012
  • John Burn-Murdoch (Interactive Journalism 2012), Ben Riley-Smith (Magazine Journalism 2012) and Adam Smith (2012) all won prizes at the Postgraduate Journalism Awards Dinner, November 2012.
  • Philippa Jacks (Magazine Journalism, 2006) won Best Blog Feature in the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) Travel Journalism Awards for Guyana: Falling for Kaieteur, November 2012

  • Matthew Bigg (Newspaper Journalism, 1990) was part of the Reuters team that won a Gerald Loeb 2012 award, a National Press Club award and a New York Press Club award for its analysis of shell corporations, June 2012
  • Ben Whitelaw (Newspaper Journalism, 2011) was part of The Times team that won an Online Media Award 2012 for the Best Use of Crowd Sourcing or Citizen Journalism. June 2012.
  • Pakinam Amer (Investigative Journalism, 2009) won the Samir Kassir Award for Freedom of the Press 2012, in the 'best investigative article' category, for her article The curious case of Reda Hilal published in Al Masry Al Youm (also published here in Egypt Today). June 2012.
  • Felix Lill (International Journalism, 2012) won the Austrian Sports Journalism Award 2012 in the print category for the third year in a row, April 2012.
  • Lulu Garcia-Navarro (International Journalism, 1998) won a Peabody Award for her "exemplary coverage throughout the Middle East" for NPR, April 2012
  • Jessica Parker (Broadcast Journalism, 2011) won Newcomer of the Year at the IRN News Awards, March 2012
  • Lulu Garcia-Navarro (International Journalism, 1998) won the 2012 XCity Award for her work on the Arab Spring for NPR, March 2012
  • Lulu Garcia-Navarro (International Journalism, 1998) won the Overseas Press Club Lowell Thomas Award for best radio news or interpretation of international affairs, March 2012

  • Lulu Garcia-Navarro (International Journalism, 1998) won a 2012 Gracie Award in the Outstanding Reporter/Correspondent category, February 2012
  • Nick Johnstone (Magazine Journalism, 2009), Zoe Smeaton (Magazine Journalism, 2007) and Rakesh Ramchurn (Magazine Journalism, 2011) all won top prizes at the PTC New Talent Awards, February 2012. Rakesh won Most Promising Student of the Year, Zoe won New Section Editor of the Year, and Nick won both New  Business Features Journalist of the Year and the Grand Prix 2012.
  • Ben Bryant (Newspaper Journalism, 2011) won the Hugh Cudlipp Award for published student journalism, January 2012. Ben won the award for two articles on gang culture that he wrote for the London Evening Standard.
  • Gareth Iacobucci (Magazine Journalism, 2006) won an Investigative reporting/scoop Awards in the Medical Journalists' Association Winter Awards 2012, January 2012

  • Simon Murphy (Newspaper Journalism, 2012) won Reporter of the Year at the Guardian Student Media Awards, November 2011, for work produced during his undergraduate degree. Clare Davis and Tom Greenfield (both Broadcast Journalism 2011) were runners-up in the Broadcast Journalist of the Year category.
  • Mark Cobley (Newspaper Journalism, 2005) won News Journalist of the Year at the State Street Awards, and Trade Journalist of the Year at the Investment Management Association Awards, November 2011.
  • Ben Preston (Newspaper Journalism, 1987), Rachel Richardson (Newspaper Journalism, 2002) and Anna Winston (Magazine Journalism, 2007) won prizes at the British Society of Magazine Editors awards, November 2011. Preston, editor of Radio Times, won Editor of the Year in the entertainment and celebrity magazines category. Richardson, editor of Fabulous, won the Fiona Macpherson New Editor of the Year award. Winston, web editor of bdonline, won Website Editor of the Year (business).
  • Jerome Starkey (Newspaper Journalism, 1994) won the Kurt Schork Memorial Award (freelance journalist category) for his reporting from Afghanistan and Libya, October 2011.
  • David Pilling (Periodical Journalism, 1988) won Foreign Commentator of the Year at the Editorial Intelligence Comment Awards, October 2011.
  • Simon Rogers (Newspaper Journalism, 1991) won Best UK Internet Journalist award from the Oxford Internet Institute, September 2011.
  • Shaoni Bhattacharya (Periodical Journalism, 1999) won best news item and best feature in the ABSW Science Writers' Awards, July 2011.
  • Saeed Kamali Dehghan (International Journalism, 2011) won a Peabody Award for the HBO documentary For Neda, which he co-produced, May 2011.
  • Guardian Datablog (Editor Simon Rogers, Newspaper Journalism, 1991) won the prize for Best Use of New Media in the Newspaper Awards, May 2011
  • James Lawton (Newspaper Journalism, 1993) and Amelia Gentleman (Newspaper Journalism, 1995) won Sports Journalist of the Year and Feature Writer of the Year respectively at the British Press Awards, April 2011
  • Simon Rogers (Newspaper Journalism, 1991) won the inaugural XCity Award for an outstanding contribution to journalism, March 2011
